Welcome to Tamana: Non-profit organisation dedicated to the welfare of mentally challanged kids

Success brings even more responsibilities:

In all these years of our existence, we have been dedicatedly working to attain the social and human objectives that we have set for ourselves, without expecting any rewards or facilitations. We at Tamana believe in selfless service of the mankind and bringing happiness to the faces of those who have no trace of it. Yet, the society has been very kind towards us. During the past few years, Tamana Association has received many awards and has had many firsts to its credit. We take these awards as a realisation of an increased responsibility. They have made us more humble and even more responsible to the cause we are here to further.

Tamana Special School is the recipient of the first Mother Teresa Award (Nov. 1997) for its dedicated services to the Mentally Impaired.

Mrs. Shyama Chona, President of Tamana Association, received the National Award for the welfare of people with disabilities for the year 1997. It was an appreciation of years of struggle in the field of disability at a personal and institutional level for her.

The institution worked hard to introduce the access to the handicapped for availing certain courses offered by the National Open School. The institute was selected as the first Accredited Centre under SAIED.

Where Tamana is the First:

Tamana is the First in Delhi (1985) to recognise Autism as a separate disability needing specialised intervention. It founded People Concerned About Autism (PCAA) which is now looking after 30 children with Autism.

First in India (1990) to start a computerised speech therapy programme for children with speech and language problems.

First to launch Mass Community Awareness campaigns regarding disability. Rajiv Gandhi Walkathon (1992) had a large participation of 400 school children walking hand in hand with the disabled in the centre of Delhi.
