The winds beneath our wings: 

Tamana Association is fortunate to have people of high caliber, repute and exceptional capabilities to grace its Governing Body. These are multi-faceted personalities who are at the peak in their individual professions but who have a deep-rooted love and concern for children with disabilities. They have all been instrumental in the growth of the association and  have made significant contribution to the society in more than one ways.

The achievements of Tamana would not have been possible without the active involvement and support from the concerned and motivated members of the body, our educators and other staff members.

Mrs. Margaret Alva:

Mrs. Alva is a former Union Cabinet Minister and a well known political leader of the Congress party. She is reputed for her humanistic approach to issues relating to welfare. She has made valuable contribution to the growth and cause of Tamana and has always been there whenever we required her support.

Dr. Lakshmi Mal Singhvi:

Dr. Singhvi is an internationally acclaimed jurist and constitutional expert. Presently a Member of the Rajya Sabha, Dr. Singhvi has graced many prestigious posts including that of the Indian High Commissioner in UK.

Geraldine Dawson:

Geraldine Dawson received a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Washington and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Neuropsychiatric Institute UCLA in 1980. She was Assistant Professor at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill before accepting a position of Professor of Psychology at the University of Washington in 1985. Dawson has had an active career as a scientist and clinician specializing in autism and the effects of experience on early brain development. She has published numerous articles and chapters on these topics, and edited or authored a number of books, including Autism: Nature, Diagnosis, and Treatment, Human Behavior and the Developing Brain, and A Parent’s Guide to Asperger Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism. She has been the recipient of continuous research funding from the NIH for her studies on autism and child psychopathology since 1983. She is internationally-recognized for her pioneering research on early diagnosis and brain function in autism and early biological risk factors for psychopathology. Dawson has served on many national committees and task forces pertaining to child mental health, including NIH scientific review and consensus panels. Dawson has been Associate Editor for three scientific journals, Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, Psychophysiology, and Development and Psychopathology. She currently is Director of the University of Washington Autism Center which consists of an NIH-funded multi-disciplinary program research program on the Neurobiology and Genetics of Autism and which provides diagnostic, consultation, and intervention services for children with autism and their families, and professional training and outreach to the greater Northwest. 

Padmashri Dr. Shayama Chona:

Mrs. Chona, the Principal of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram is an educationist of international repute. Her activities in different fields are not only acclaimed the world over but also recognized by the presentation of more than 15 awards of national and international level. In 1997, she was presented with the prestigious National Award for Individual for Best Work Done in The Cause of the Disabled. Under  her dynamic leadership as President of the Governing Council, Tamana School has received the First Mother Teresa Award for its dedicated services to the mentally impaired.  

The most significant award came Mrs. Chona's way in 1999 when she was conferred the 'Padmashri' by the President of India, for her distinguished services in the field of education. M.A; B.Ed and Sp. Ed. (USA) by qualification, Mrs. Chona has been working in the field of education for the past 37 years. 

It is Mrs. Chona's commitment that saw Tamana sail through all the challenges and difficulties in all these years. She is herself mother of a handicapped child, Tamana, and is wholeheartedly dedicated to the cause of special children. Mrs. Chona has also received the State Award; Woman of the year award and Best Citizen of India Award.
