The Diagnostic Center:

Functions from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. three days a week with a multi- disciplinary team of experts comprising of social worker, psychologist/ counselor, special educator, speech therapist, occupational therapist and physiotherapist. The service provided are-:

· Early developmental assessment of infants and toddlers.
· Intellectual assessment of children from 2 to 18 years.
· Assessments and guidance in the domains of sensory integrative functioning and neuro-developmental, cognitive, socio-emotional and functional skills.
· Hearing and speech and language assessments specially focused on Autistic communication abilities.
· Functional and academic skills assessment.
· Individual program planning according to each child's abilities and potentials.
· Parental counseling and guidance.
· Outreach and home based programs for outstation and distantly located children.
· Behavior modification guidance to parents and caregivers.

First Step Early Intervention Center

Early intervention is the introduction of planned programming deliberately timed and arranged in order to attend the anticipated or projected course of development of an individual (Siegal 1972). Intervention refers to program implementation designed to maintain or enhance the child's development in his/her natural environment and as a member of a family. EIC at School of Hope is specially designed to provide services to children from birth from 3 years of age who have an established risk, have a developmental delay, or are considered to be environmentally or biologically at risk.

Early intervention is aimed at -
· Accelerating the rate of development of the child.
· Acquisition of new behavior / skills.
· Increase independent functioning of the child
· Early detection and prevention of secondary handicaps.
· Minimize effect of handicapping condition.
· Providing assistance to parent and family members in copping skills and to understand their child better.

Services Provided at the EIC are:-
· Diagnosis and assessment
· Occupational therapy
· Psychological Services
· Speech and language therapy

The Residential Independence Training Center and Respite Care (Short Stay) (Hostel)

The hostel is situated on the premises of Tamana's Vocational Training Center- Nai Disha, C-10/8, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi. The Hostel provides a unique program that equips the mentally impaired person with all the skills that make for a life of least dependence on others and inculcate a feeling of self-sufficiency and self worth. The students are trained to become fully independent in all spheres of life. The residential center works towards the fulfillment of the following objectives.

o To provide a temporary residential facility to a family facing any crisis
o To provide a independence training program.
o To provide for a constructive recreation time and enhance social interaction with others

Admission is open to persons in the age group 13 to 20 yrs, with mild to moderate levels of developmental disability. The program is designed to provide services for 20 individuals at a given time. Out of these, 8 seats are for girls and 12 for boys (this ratio is subject to change as per the demand).

The facility has well furnished, separate dormitories for boys & girls. These are airy, sun-lit rooms. They are designed to facilitate programs to teach the students independent living skills - cooking, managing their own living area and laundry. Equipment like washing machines, ovens etc. are available to accord a well-rounded training. Toilets and bathrooms have been planned especially to suit the needs of the special needs clientele. Facilities like television, VCD and music system are provided. Appropriate reading material, including newspapers and magazines are available in the library. The building also houses a well equipped gym with a treadmill, exercise -cycles, steppers and multi-gym. The building has space and facilities for indoor and outdoor games.

Admissions to hostel are on and forms are available at all the branches of Tamana. Short stay facility for a few days (Respite care) is available for Tamana students whereby parents can leave their children in the Tamana hostel for a few days whenever they wish to go out of station. This center also function as an extended day care- wherein children of working parents stay till evening.

Teachers Training Cell

August 12, 1994 saw the inauguration of the teachers training cell with the introduction of a year-long certificate course in Special Education (for teaching the mentally impaired). The course gave special preference to those from rural backgrounds and from economically weaker sections of society.

Currently, Tamana is the study center for the B.Ed. in Special Education program of M.P. Bhoj University.

It is also be one of the few organizations selected by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) to run a Certification program in Autism. Some seats are also reserved for handicapped adults

Saturday Fun Club

To make students understand the difference between work and leisure, Saturday club was started with a view to enrich the lives of our young adult, to express to mingle with friends, to have a space of their own and to build sense of belonging to a group. Features of the club are- fully equipped, gymnasium, sports and games, excursions, outings, and creative arts.


National Open School

Tamana highlighted the concept of formal school certification for special needs students. For two years the course coordinators worked on curriculum planning and then put into operation the first special accredited center of NOS, in 1999. Tamana runs the Open Basic Education (Level A & B) courses for the disabled and the disadvantaged. Non Tamana students can also utilize the facility.
